A Heart for Jesus
Sharing that Love with Children
At Calvary we recognize that part of being a growing thriving church means having a stellar kids program. But raising up the next generation of believers is no small task and requires a lot of work! Like in every other area in which we grow as a body, we believe discipling our children happens together. Read on to see what serving in this team looks like at our church.
Being Blessed through Serving
When I was first asked to teach a Sunday School class, I was worried and had many questions and concerns. I wasn’t a teacher and other working with my own child, I didn’t know how to teach them. I also still had a lot to learn about the bible and might not know how to answer their questions. I was attending adult classes and didn’t want to miss them. But God leads us and provides for us. I worked with Joyce Snead, who had lots of fantastic experience and skill at teaching Sunday School. She showed me how to be a great teacher and encouraged me. God gave me a desire and provided the knowledge I needed, and I grew in my own knowledge while teaching. God also grew my heart for the kids. As we transitioned to Calvary Kids, I continued to teach. Again, it was a new experience and God continued to provide. Jenn Yenca and Lori Lyons created a good format for Calvary Kids and walked us through the new format. God provided and grew my heart for the new program and a new set of kids.
If you feel God leading you to Calvary Kids, but you have concerns about your ability to teach. Pray, and if God leads you, He will provide. And He will grow you as He helps you to teach, serve, and love the Calvary Kids.

What's Involved in Serving
For Preschool (our 2- 5 year olds), the children start off with connecting with each other through play. They then are led by a Small Group Leader into a smaller group (the 2 and 3 year olds together, and the 4 and 5 year olds together) to do an activity that is relevant to the Bible lesson for the day. All groups come back together into a large group where they worship God through singing songs and hearing a Bible lesson from the Large Group Leader. Both of these volunteers are assisted by the Tech Guide who advances the presentation and plays the videos. Afterwards, they break back into their two smaller groups for a few activities that again reinforce the lesson and have snack time. Additionally, Small Group Helpers exist to further assist Small Group leaders in their small group time.

For our Elementary kids (K - 5th grade), the children start off with fellowshipping together and connecting with their Small Group leader who asks them about their week. Next, they all come together in a large group to worship God through singing songs led by a Music Guide and then hearing the Bible lesson from the Large Group Leader. Both of these volunteers are assisted by the Tech Guide who advances the presentation and plays the videos. Lastly, they break out into their small groups in which they are led by their Small Group Leader through activities that apply the lesson and prayer time. Small groups for Elementary are: K - 2nd grade mixed gender, 3rd - 5th grade girls and 3rd - 5th grade boys. Additionally, Small Group Helpers exist to further assist Small Group leaders in their small group time.

Currently, our Nursery is not staffed. Parents are welcome to go to the nursery with their little ones and watch the sermon live. However, we are hoping to have the nursery staffed by April through creating a rotation of moms who will watch each other's children in the nursery monthly. If you are an interested mom or would like to volunteer to watch children in the nursery in general - please contact our Children's Director, Jenn Yenca at email@example.com!
Our Quarterly Rhthyms
Our volunteers rotate quarterly between Winter (Jan - March), Spring (Apr - June), Summer (July - Sept) and Fall (Oct - Dec). Currently we are in the Winter quarter, which began on January 24th and are still in need of one volunteer a 2 - 3 year old Small Group Leader!
Looking ahead to our Spring quarter, currently all volunteering roles are open. Though only adults can serve as leaders, high school students are welcome to serve as helpers! If interested in any of the below, please contact our Children's Director Jenn Yenca directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out the form at the bottom of this page!
